A Trojan cannot infect your Computer until it has been clicked on to open it! Therefore, to protect yourself and your Computer, follow these simple guidelines:

Never open pictures, exe's, or any other files downloaded from IRC chat programs like Pirch and Mirc, Instant messenger programs like ICQ, or other unreliable sources without scanning for Viruses and Trojans before you open the file.

Always scan attachments from trusted/known origins, and never open email-attachments from unknown people and/or origins without scanning for Viruses and Trojans before you open the file..

Avoid "underground" websites like hacker sites or crack sites.

Be very careful with Java Applets and ActiveX.

Try to avoid giving away your personal IP.

Be very careful using floppy-disks, Zip disks, cd-rom disks, etc. from others. Always scan these before copying or installing their files.

Always scan new programs or downloads - period!

Scan any downloaded Program / Game / Os patches from any source, since there are many loopholes...
